I covered all the non-white objects and surfaces in my apartment with white tape, to preserve only a shell of space’s identity. I grouped objects by similar shapes, subconsciously rearranging, compressing, and manipulating their position in the space. The rituals of home life became fractured and eventually disappeared. I could no longer live the way I was used to. I then went outside, gathered sticks and branches, and began binding them together in my apartment to build something like a photograph. All of these processes created the illusion that the space and I blended to become a giant camera. In this space, I thought about the medium of photography. In this space, I thought about how photography turns the world and ourselves inside out, how we are compressed and reduced to units, like jpegs, and the greedy nature of taking and wanting that is inherent in the act of photography.
